I have eaten here before, my first tapas experience, and it was wonderful. The food and atmosphere are both wonderful, quirky, and really fun. But this review is mostly about the staff. Helpful, knowledgeable, fast, direct, and really personable. Here on a busy Saturday night. The first weekend of ArtPrize. We were seated well ahead of when we thought, they helped us to a table that was more comfortable for our party, and have been all around wonderful. Both this time and the last they have been great with helpful suggestions and just all around great service. From the wonderful hostesses, to the waiters and waitresses, to the chefs and other kitchen staff you might meet in the hall while waiting... all polite and helpful. Five stars for great looking and tasting food. Id give them ten for a wonderful staff if I could! Do recommend!
San Chez is always a 5 star experience with 5 star food & beverages. Of all the times I've been there, I've never gotten a bad menu recommendation from servers & bartenders. As delicious as their entire menu looks, we tend to drive 2 hours for brunch and the beverages that come with that. The staff has always been incredibly pleasant & friendly, like we are instant best friends with them; anyone that's ever worked in the restaurant business knows how difficult it is to not be jaded over time in the industry. I will always be willing to drive a 4 hour round trip for a San Chez experience.
Everything about this place is spectacular. My friends and I still talk about the food that we had here long ago, to this day. Each and every dish was so full of flavor and it's own culinary experience :) The aesthetic and atmosphere is artistic and unique. The servers and staff are some of the friendliest and most helpful I have seen. A Grand Rapids favorite!
Located at the heart of Downtown Grand Rapids, San Chez is a lively Spanish/Mediterranean restaurant that has a full bar with plenty of seating. Given their large tapas menu, it's quite fun for large parties to get a small taste of everything. Not to mention, it's one of the few restaurants in Grand Rapids that offers more than a salad for their vegetarian patrons. One of the best items on their menu is the paella: trust us, it's worth the 45-60 minutes wait time. They also have an excellent breakfast/brunch offering, and their breakfast food all goes well with a mimosa. Speaking of mimosas, it's pretty awesome that you can choose your bottle of bubbly and mix yourself with the OJ that they provide. The service staff is quick and friendly. The wait time can be quite long, especially for weekend breakfast. Parking is nearly impossible, given that it's downtown.
This place was amazing I would definitely recommend! Every tapa we got was flavorful and their meat was perfectly tender. Our server was helpful in making recommendations and checking on us frequently even though she had many tables. I kept forgetting to take pictures before we all grabbed food. They recommend 2-3 tapas per person, but for the four of us we got 6 and thought it was perfect, all depends on how hungry you are.
