The food is amazing. I had the fried plantains and the chicken curry with a spicy level of 0. I do not like hot things so this was just right. There still is a little spice to it. Be weary of what spice level you choose because they are heavy handed on the hot. I ordered a 3 before and couldn't even eat it.
Such a delight! The fun part is trying to figure out how to open the folk art door. It's like a magical little place that way. Still, the building is not the only attraction. The food is amazing!
Their food is great! I eat at Olgas all the time. You can get your food as spicy or as mild as you like. Olga is the best! :)
I hadn't had Haitian food in over 15 years (back when I lived in Brooklyn, NY where Caribbean restaurants were plentiful) + never expected to find a Haitian restaurant in Michigan!Since discovering Chez Olga in July, I've driven back to Grand Rapids twice to enjoy one of my long-time favorite dishes, Black Rice, + new delights like the Plantain Sandwiches! As a spicy-food lover, I can say that Chez Olga's definitely brings the heat. Their pepper sauce is not for the weak + folks would do well to start at a level 3 + ask for a side of pepper sauce to add to taste.Spicy Coleslaw comes as a side with several appetizers + sandwiches + offers tangy-peppery balance to the signature "strawberry sauce/marinade" that is served as a dip for the shrimp, pats + plantains. But it would be more accurate to describe it as Spicy Pickled Cabbage than coleslaw so that diners won't expect the sweet + creamy flavor of American-style version.
I will forever support this restaurant. If you want cultural food look no further! This is the tofu creole which is fantastic for vegetarian eaters. The owners are from Haiti and make the most amazing Caribbean food I've ever tasted. Love this place to death and I talk about it all of the time with people from the grand Rapids area.
