The GRAM definitely has the feel of a modern museum in the sense that there is more space than there is art. There's nothing wrong with that, except that I would like to spend more than a couple hours there and still have more to see. Luckily, they tend to have excellent exhibits!
The GRAM as they call it in Grand Rapids is fantastic. I was there for Art Prize-the world's largest art competition. As always it didn't disappoint. I was very entertained by the permanent pieces as well as the entries for this year. I urge people to check their website for the free admission days and events that are always happening here.
A wonderful selection of art in all it's creativity and life-affirming that expand our world view and appreciation of the diversity of human talent and vision. The museum encompasses 3 floors, and its layout is roomy but manageable -- it can be comfortably viewed in 60-90 minutes. It can be visited free on Tuesdays as well as Thursday evenings. The permanent exhibits are complimented by wonderful traveling exhibits which keep you coming back. It is well-worth becoming a member.
Beautiful ambiance and friendly people. Honestly, was there for a long time friends wedding so the place couldnt have been bad even if it tried. The museum added a perfect touch to their special day and was an amazing night of celebrations!
Hard to navigate your way around the museum. We missed an entire exhibit because they placed a moveable wall in front of the entrance to a room blocking the view of the entrance. Also, there was a art work tag with title and artist next to an air duct. We stood for a few minutes staring at an air duct not knowing if it was an art piece. I really do like this museum though. they have interesting and unique art work.
